Relocation into camps for about 20,000 South Sudanese refugees in Gambella, Ethiopia is on hold until the end of the October rains.

Nearly 190,000 refugees have crossed into Gambella since the South Sudan civil war began in December 2013, the UN's refugee agency UNHCR said.

According to UNHCR, 157,500 refugees have been relocated into camps in Gambella. However, the remaining will have to wait due to wet weather.

UNHCR said that about 92 people per day are arriving in Gambella from South Sudan, a significant reduction from earlier in the year when at times over 1000 people crossed the border each day to escape the fighting.

The World Food Programme said it is providing food to refugees in Gambella as well as airlifting food to South Sudan from Ethiopia.

WFP said it is short 54 million dollars for its operations from Gambella through March 2015.
