Chinese technology company ZTE has donated a school building in the home area of James Wani Igga, South Sudan’s vice president.

The girls’ dormitory for the Yapa Secondary School in Lobonok Payam was inaugurated at a ceremony on Saturday attended by Igga and ZTE Vice President for East Africa, Thomas Tang, as well as the Deputy Minister of Education Bol Makueng.

In remarks at the opening of the dormitory last Saturday, Wang listed other charitable contributions that ZTE has previously made in South Sudan, including donating thousands of sets of stationary to schools, sponsoring the Atlabara football club, various sports events, and donating computers to the government.

ZTE sales director Frank Wang said that the girls’ dormitory cost about $80,000, while Igga himself disclosed that ZTE paid for about 75% of the cost.

Igga reportedly said in remarks on the occasion that there is also need for another two dormitories for boys, expressing hopes that ZTE will assist with this.
