'Youths' steal guns from prison service in Yambio County

A senior official in Yambio County of Western Equatoria State has confirmed that some guns were stolen from government facilities on Tuesday by an unknown group of youths. Previously, the governor has said that armed groups of 'Arrow Boys' are recruiting boys and youths in Yambio County.

Hussein Enoka Ibrahim, Yambio County Commissioner told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday at least 11 guns were collected by the youths from a store belonging to the state prison farm station at Nasoro area ealier this week.

“In the place called Nasoro I was told they took 10 guns and one was taken from Gangura near Nedia and this was the information we have collected,” he said. The commissioner said the youths came and took the guns and ten left without shooting or killing anyone.

“No, no there is no one killed, wounded nor was there any gun shooting after they have attacked the two areas,” said Hussein Enoka Ibrahim.

The commissioner said they also abducted a senior officer of prisons in Nasoro and took three prisoners or staff from Nasoro. The commissioner said he did not know whether any of the three people taken from Nasoro were prison officers.

He added that residents, churches and community leaders of the area are going to form a committee for reconciliations to find out from their sons why they have gone to the bush. He stressed that the group does not have a name, even though the government in Juba announced earlier this week that there was a rebellion in Western Equatoria.

“I am telling you, until now they have not named themselves and nobody exactly knows their name on how they are identified and that what we still don’t know as the government,” he said.

Since the youths attacked the two areas, the situation returned to calm and people are normally moving to their farms, he noted.
