World Vision to extend aid operations in Ulang, Koch

The international relief organization World Vision today announced that it is expanding its operations in northern South Sudan including in Ulang and Koch counties.

In a press release, World Vision said that it estimates that at least 2,000 households in Ulang County, Upper Nile State are in need of more aid. The relief organization said that it plans to distribute relief items in this area over the next two weeks.

According to the press release, World Vision also plans to take over health clinics in Koch County in Unity State after being requested by the county health department to do so.

This comes after malnutrition screenings found that about 7% of children in the county were malnourished while 26% of pregnant and lactating women were also malnourished.

World Vision said its expanding operations are made possible by the Common Humanitarian Fund. The organization said it has created “mobile teams that deploy quickly to remote places to distribute aid and then leave soon after.”

Other upcoming activities include a livestock vaccination program that will be carried out in Fashoda, Melut and Renk.

Meanwhile, Fred McCray, the organization’s Operations Director in South Sudan, pointed out that they employ more than 700 South Sudanese. “Although our funding comes from other places, the aid is delivered by South Sudanese,” he said.
