West Kordofan strives to open borders with Northern Bahr El Ghazal

Authorities in Meiram Locality in Sudan’s West Kordofan State intend to open border checkpoints  between their state and South Sudan’s Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, a source in Meiram who prefered anonymity said that an envoy of West Kordofan Governor Musalam Abu El Gasim held a meeting on Monday with Northern Bahr El Ghazal State authorities in Majok County where they agreed on the importance of the road connecting the two states.

The visiting delegation included youths and native administration leaders from Meiram Locality. The two governments reaffirmed the “historic ties” between the Misseriya and Dinka Malual.

He noted they discused ways to accelarate the opening of crossing points in accordance with the terms of the Joint Cooperation Agreement signed by the two countries in September 2012.

“We talked of the importace of peaceful coexistence between the two tribes, and with regards to the opening of borders the two authorites said it should be adressed by the two countries as per the agreement,” said the same source.
