WBEG assembly petitions Kiir over governor Rizig's alleged abuses

The Western Bahr el Ghazal legislative assembly handed a petition to President Salva Kiir against Governor Rizig Zachariah Hassan for alleged abuse of power, according to the state speaker Andrea Mayar.

In a press statement on Tuesday after meeting Kiir, Mayar said he raised a series of complaints to the president related to alleged violations by Rizig.

He said the first complaint was over the state budget. Mayar said the council passed a budget, but it was not properly executed especially regarding salaries of state employees.

Mayar accused the governor of interfering with the affairs of the state assembly and squandering state money in bribes.

“Now three lawmakers are still in detention in connection with Wau incidents, and at the same time the governor appointed new members without any consultation with of the state assembly,” he continued.

Mayar further said he raised vote of no confidence against finance minister Lillian Riziq, and that the council sticks to its decision to impeach the minister.

Mayar blamed the governor of what he termed “lawlessness” in the state.
