Warrap: Sleeping woman murdered, child hurt

A 56-year-old woman was shot to death in Manawan village in Warrap State on Wednesday and an eight-year-old girl was injured by an unknown gunman in the same attack.

Twic County police criminal investigator Captain Ayii Deng Ayii told Mayardit FM that a man entered her house and shot her.

“A woman was having problems with a man then he decided to shoot her at night while she was sleeping inside the house with her daughter whom he also wounded. The child is wounded seriously and she was admitted in hospital yesterday,” he said.

Ayii Deng says the suspect has been arrested and is in Turalei Prison.

In an unrelated incident, a man threw a grenade into a house in Adool Village of Turalei payam and injured three people on Thursday. Two men were seriously wounded. A four-month-old baby was also hurt. They are all in the hospital.

The same police official said the suspect who threw the grenade escaped. He added that the grenade was thrown “without any reason.”

Elsewhere in Twic County, a man drowned in River Lol at Abyeidau Village in Wunrok Payam on Tuesday. His body was spotted in the Lol river and recovered on Wednesday at the riverbank in Abyeidau.

Deputy police inspector in Wunrok Payam Atem Kocdit explained that the man was a fisherman about 45 years old, well known for his swimming ability.
