US drops tax break for South Sudan

As of 1 January 2015 South Sudan will no longer enjoy duty-free trade with the United States, President Barack Obama ordered yesterday.

The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), established 14 years ago, gives African countries duty-free access to American markets, Reuters news agency reported.

Obama's proclamation said that South Sudan failed to meet the requirements of the program.
