Urban Water Corporation in Nyala threatens strike

The management of the Urban Water Corporation in Nyala, South Darfur State, has delivered a petition to the state government demanding payment of salaries of more than 300 employees working with the Corporation.

The head of the municipal body, Hassan Ebaid said that they had petitioned the authorities concerned in the state about non-payment of salaries since last October.

He noted that the workforce is more than 300, adding that their arrears could reach SDG 300 million. The recent circular regarding increase of salaries across Sudan has not been implemented yet in the state, Ebaid explained.

The striking workers have given the state government three days to solve toe problem, after which they will organize an open strike until their salaries are paid, he said.

The Corporation is claiming more than SDG 350 million from State Health Ministry, Finance Ministry, Prison Service and Nyala Hospital.
