Frequent attacks by the South Sudanese rebels have left hundreds of citizens without food in Panyikang County in Upper Nile state, a local official told Radio Tamazuj.

Meanwhile, several conflict-displaced people said they are experiencing a worsening humanitarian situation because of dwindling food and medical supplies.

The displaced people pointed out that not a single humanitarian organization has been operating in the area to help alleviate their suffering.

They also blamed dire humanitarian conditions on fighting between the government forces and rebels several months ago in the area.

Gatluak Liphos, the state minister of culture, youth and sport, said floods in the area also contributed to food shortages.

The official claimed that they recently called on the international humanitarian agencies to help people as soon as possible.
