Unity state employees decry deduction of salaries for SPLM membership

Civil servants in South Sudan’s Unity state have complained about deduction of salaries by the local authorities for the SPLM party fund.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, several employees expressed discontent about the deduction of salaries by the government for this political contribution. The complaining employees said they informed the state governor and the ministry of finance on the matter, but without any positive response so far.

Jerfik Kur, secretary for the United Sudanese African Party (USAP) in Abiemnhom County said the SPLM-led government has been deducting the employees’ salaries for several years now under the pretext that the money goes to the SPLM fund.

He pointed out that there is a large number of employees in the state who are affiliated to other South Sudanese political parties.

He requested the SPLM party to clarify this matter to the political parties. “Maybe those who are doing that are the corrupt members of the SPLM party,” he said.

The politician called on the SPLM to stop deducting the salaries of employees who are not SPLM members.
