Two killed in cattle raid in Jur River County

Two people have been killed and more than 60 head of cattle raided from Mapel Payam in Jur River County of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, according to a politician from the area.

Abraham Dimo, the Member of Parliament representing Mapel Constituency in the state assembly, said the attackers disappeared with the animals in the direction of Cueibet County in Lakes State.

Speaking to the UN Radio Miraya he said, “At around eight o clock in the morning, unknown gunmen came to Mapel in a place called Magela and looted around 50 cattle, again combining it with the cattle around the house of someone called Lual Dimo, around fifteen cattle.”

“So a total of around 65 cattle were looted. The first guy whose cattle were looted got shot. Dimo was also shot dead and one guy was wounded in the leg yesterday.”

In a separate incident in Mapel, a man and his wife were shot and injured when armed men forced their way into their home. Radio Miraya reported that the couple is receiving treatment at Wau military hospital as investigations into the incident are underway.
