Two international aid workers raped in South Sudan capital Juba

Two international aid workers were raped last weekend in the South Sudan capital Juba, according to a United Nations source in the country.

According to the source, two female workers of an international organization arrived at the UN's Tomping compound at 5 am on 6 September and reported to security staff that they had been forcibly stopped while driving in a vehicle and had been robbed and raped. The source did not say when or where the rape took place.

The two workers were accompanied by two World Food Programme contractors and admitted to a Level 2 Hospital for treatment.

Police officials in Juba were unavailable for comment when Radio Tamazuj called. The UN and aid groups have made no official public statements about the incident.
