A member of the SPLM-IO rebel group in South Sudan yesterday accused troops loyal to the Juba government of killing two of his relatives in the Rubkona area of Unity State.

Amos Majiek Gatkuoth, one of the bodyguards of the SPLM-IO’s chief negotiator Taban Deng, told Radio Tamazuj that the government forces arrested three children from his family, aged 9, 10 and 12 years, adding that they were taken off the road that passes in front of the camp for displaced people within the United Nations base.

Two of their bodies were found yesterday morning, while the 12-year old remains missing, according to Amos. Amos explained that he was notified of the news by his older brother, who is in camp for displaced people within the United Nations base in Unity state.

However, the SPLM-IO military spokesman Lul Ruai, who announced the same incident in a press release, described the victims as “two men,” identifying them as “the younger brother and first cousin of Sgt. Amos Majiek Gatkuoth.”
