A local Maban official claims that authorities have arrested two people on suspicion of involvement in the killings of ethnic Nuer aid workers in Maban County last month, according to a local official.

Maban’s county commissioner reportedly said that eyewitnesses identified two suspects and the authorities have arrested them.

“Two of those who have committed the crime have been arrested and under investigation,” the official said, as quoted by Eye Radio.

Aid agencies partially evacuated from the county after the killings in August. Some critical staff remained to provide services for the more than 127,000 Sudanese refugees sheltering in the county.

In a statement on UN radio, UNHCR Public Information Officer Pumla Rulashe explained that a group of “critical staff is on ground to ensure that lifesaving services continue to be provided to refugees.”

The refugees number over 127,700, she said.
