Traders request Wau-Boro road maintenance

Traders and farmers of Boro Medina area of Western Bahr el Ghazal have urged the state government to repair and extend the roads connecting the region with the state capital Wau.

Musa Shaib, one of the intellectuals in the town of Boro Medina in Raja County said that the area is one of the richest in agriculture products such groundnuts, sorghum and onions.

He pointed out that the price of onions has dropped to 400 SSP due to lack of means of transport to the main town market, which may cause financial losses for the local traders and farmers.

“The first problem is the roads: the road from Boro Medina to Raja is very poor. It’s not encouraging the traders to bring their goods from there to Raja, then to the state main market,” he said.

Shaib appealed to traders to buy onions from the local farmers because otherwise their quality will be poor before they get to market.

“As I am speaking the price of a sack of onions reduced to 400 SSP. So we are urging the state government to repair Boro road because there a lot of goods which need to be transported in order for our state and normal citizens to get a benefit from these,” Musa added.
