Textbooks for primary schools reach Jonglei State

A first batch of textbooks and teacher guides for primary schools and Accelerated Learning Program centers reached Jonglei State on Sunday. The 359,000 books benefitting around 467,00 pupuils and students will be delivered to learning institutes in Bor, Duk and Twic East counties.

A total of 1.4 million books are scheduled for distribution in the other counties of Jonglei in the coming six weeks. This is according to a press statement by the company carrying out the distribution operation, Charles Kendall Consulting. The exact arrival to other unstable parts of Jonglei depends on ‘road conditions and the security situation in the State’.

The distribution is part of a nationwide program funded by the British government and also ongoing in Warrap, Lakes and Western Bahr el Ghazal State. Further deliveries for Eastern Equatoria, Jonglei, Western Equatoria, Upper Nile and Unity State are still being processed in Juba and Kampala, the capital of Uganda.

Textbooks for Northern Bahr el Ghazal were held up for twelve days in March at customs at the Ugandan border.
