Maridi Central Payam Court on Friday sentenced a teacher to one year in prison and a fine of five thousand South Sudanese pounds for impregnating a 16 year-old girl of Haddow Primary School. 

The 22-year old John Juma has served as head teacher of Referendum Primary School for two years.

The girl was also sentenced to six months in the prison with a fine of three hundred South Sudanese pounds for having a relationship with the teacher.

In a related story, a 26-year old man Thomas Bukulu, a resident of Malakia neighborhood in Maridi was also sent to prison for impregnating a 19-year old girl from Gbutala Secondary School. Both Bukulu and the girl were fined the same amount as John Juma.
