Sudanese pastoralists arrested in Upper Nile State

Upper Nile State pastoralists’ union chairman Pibor Aguer has revealed that a number of Sudanese pastoralists were arrested in Renk County.

Aguer told Radio Tamazuj that police last week arrested pastoralists from the Sudanese Blue Nile region in Geiger area of Renk County, saying they are now under detention in Renk prison.

The pastoralists’ leader further noted that the Sudanese pastoralists will be release after completion of investigation in order to find out the identity of the cattle owners.

“Before two to three days Arabs pastoralists of al-Rufa [tribe] have entered with their cattle into civilians’ agriculture farms. Citizens have reported the case to police.”

“What is needed now is the owners of the cattle should come and see the destruction done by their cattle so that find out amicable solutions of settling the dispute,” Aguer noted on Friday.

He stressed that the pastoralists’ union in Upper Nile State is seeking to embrace chances of peaceful coexistence with the Sudanese pastoralists by setting conditions for their crossing into South Sudanese territory.
