Ibrahim Ghandour, Sudan’s chief negotiator at the peace talks with SPLA-N in Addis Ababa reiterated their rejection to a unilateral ceasefire announced by the rebels to allow humanitarian access in Blue Nile and South Kordofan.

Ghandour, who is also the deputy chairman of the ruling National Congress Party, confirmed their readiness to reach an agreement on ceasefire and security arrangements.

In 2011, President Bashir announced a unilateral two-week ceasefire in South Kordofan and Blue Nile, but also announced that no foreign organisations would be allowed to operate in the two regions.

Addressing the general conference of the ruling party in River Nile State Thursday, Ghandour said they reject the cessation of hostilities because he claimed the rebels have been using it to attack villages which are secure.

He further said the government delegation submitted a proposal that calls for a clear cease-fire agreement and security arrangements.

"We will not accept a cessation of hostilities under the guise of the delivery of humanitarian aid for the conflict-affected people in the Two Areas,” he was quoted as saying.
