Sudan: State of Emergency declared in North Darfur

The acting governor of North Darfur state has declared a State of Emergency for the entire state.

Minister of Agriculture and acting governor of North Darfur, Adam Mohamed Hamed El Nahla, declared the State of Emergency during Eid El Adha in an attempt to curb the rampant insecurity in the state.

It is now strictly forbidden for civilians to carry arms, or to fire into the air during weddings and other festivities without a permit.

The kadamool (a turban veil covering most of the face) is banned in North Darfur towns, markets, and public facilities. Drivers of vehicles without number plates will be fined.

In July, the governor of South Darfur took similar measures to combat insecurity in the state.
