Sudan: New security cooperation between Kordofan states

A series of joint security meetings are expected to be held between North Kordofan and South Kordofan states soon.

In a press statement yesterday, North Kordofan State Governor Ahmed Haroun said the expected security meetings will develop a framework for a joint security mechanism.

He said the move will secure tribal movements between North Kordofan and South Kordofan states, besides addressing the integration of South Kordofan nomads into local communities.

These remarks came during a workshop organized in El Obeid and attended by several traditional leaders and politicians as well as security officials of El Rahad and Sheikan Localities.

The attendees emphasized the need for security coordination along the common border between the North and South Kordofan states in order to control insecurity as well as facilitation of the movement of pastoralists between the two states during rainy seasons.

The governors emphasized the need for follow-up on the workshop’s resolutions in order to improve the security along the border between the two states.
