Sudan’s Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid says he is willing to provide support to help secure this year's farming season in South Kordofan state.

In government-controlled areas of the state, much of the produce is for export and is shipped north out of the state.

Farmers in the state have warned of critical problems this year. On 3 August, farmers in El Tadamoun locality in South Kordofan complained over Radio Tamazuj about the high price of fuel, seed and pesticides at the market.

Some said that this year’s planting season would fail if the agriculture ministry does not intervene.

Ibahim met with the South Kordofan Governor Gen. Adam Al-Faki on Monday. In a press statement, El-Faki pointed out that his state has huge agricultural potential and that they plan to sow 6 million acres for this year's planting season.

The governor emphasized the stability in the state, saying protection of citizens is key for successful agriculture.
