Sudan's government announced that it will hold cease-fire talks with the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) next month under the auspices of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) for Sudan, headed by Thabo Mbeki.

Minister of Information Ahmed Bilal Osman said in a press statement Thursday that the talks will take place from the 12th to 15th after the Eid al-Adha holiday

Osman said the talks will be an important step toward setting the stage for a proposed national dialogue process between Khartoum, opposition parties and rebel groups.

The mediator Mbeki is scheduled to visit Khartoum soon to discuss how the rebels can take part in the National Dialogue, according to the official.‫                                                          

“The success of the National Dialogue requires various procedural issues that can help in terms of deliberations on the dialogue later, so it may also require another round outside Sudan and changing of the mechanism,” he was quoted as saying.

SRF includes the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North, which is fighting the government in South Kordofan and the Blue Nile and the Justice and Equality Movement in the Darfur region, as well as other several groups.
