The Khartoum government is accused of supporting opposition fighters under the command of former vice president Riek Machar, the faction known as SPLM-IO.

In a press statement yesterday in Juba, the SPLA-Juba spokesman Col. Philip Aguer said the Sudanese government cannot deny its support to the force of Riek Machar. He pointed out that they even have an office in Khartoum.

Aguer claimed that intelligence reports suggest that rebel forces are stationed in Blue Nile, adding about 700 forces are now at Jebelain of White Nile.

Meanwhile, a military source from Division One accused the rebels of killing innocent citizens including women and children around Renk town.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Monday, the same source also accused the Sudanese government of supporting the rebels.

“We found evidence after we had captured military equipments belonging to Sudan. You know, after defeating the rebels we also found the Sudanese flag hoisted in those areas and banners calling for reunification between Sudan and South Sudan,” he claimed.

Radio Tamazuj could not reach the opposition forces in the area to comment on the matter.

Meanwhile, a source in Sudan’s neighboring Blue Nile State confirmed that dozens of wounded SPLM-IO fighters arrived at Damazin Military Hospital since the most recent fighting in Renk County.
