Lessons at Rumbek Secondary School in Lakes State have been suspended after students protested the use of the new South Sudan syllabus, Radio Miraya reported.

The school’s deputy head teacher for academic affairs, Adongkena Kenneth says classes have been halted after a group of students mobilized not to attend classes under the new curriculum.

Adongkena says 300 students believed to have behind the protest have been suspended.

He said protest leaders had written notices to students and placed them in every classroom urging their peers not to attend classes because of objections to the new South Sudan curriculum.

The deputy head teacher told Radio Miraya that classes will resume once the issue has been resolved by the National Ministry of Education.
