State govt says inquiry into Maban killings to continue
The inquiry into the events that took place in Maban last August remains unfinished, according to an official of the Upper Nile state government, Altayib Okej Ajak.
Altayib, an advisor in the state information ministry, revealed that the committee of investigation headed by former Deputy Governor John Ivo will continue in their work to investigate what happened in the county.
He attributed the reasons for the delay in completion of the investigation to the size of the task at hand as well as the break for Christmas and New Year. He pointed out that the investigation will continue to reveal the identity of the perpetrators.
“Up to now investigation is still ongoing. As you know it is very difficult and takes a long time for someone to know what happened and what caused the incident. We cannot say anything now as government is still investigating the matter,” Altayib told Radio Tamazuj yesterday.
“The committee have gone for a break for holidays but after 1/1/2015 the committee will resume its’ work.”
Six aid workers of Nuer ethnicity were killed in Maban County last month, allegedly by the Maban Defense Forces (MDF), a militia allied to the country’s ruling SPLM-Juba faction.
The killings were condemned by humanitarian organizations and the United Nations and led to the temporary evacuation of many of the relief workers based in the county.
