SPLA-Juba absence delays S Sudan talks to Thursday

The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) announced the postponement of resumption of South Sudan peace talks in Addis Ababa from Wednesday to Thursday.

The East African body IGAD which is hosting the talks between the warring South Sudanese factions said Wednesday that Salva Kiir’s delegation has not arrived yet to the Ethiopian capital.

SPLM-IO delegation member Hussein Maar, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that the opening of the talks was rescheduled for Thursday.

“Our head of delegation consulted with the IGAD people, who explained the agenda and the cause of delay in resumption of talks today,” said Hussein.

“We knew that the government delegation is not here. So we will wait this evening, and if they delay tomorrow as well, I think we will also make a stance…because they cannot have us stay here, knowing there should be negotiations."

"The government delegation has no issues of facilities," he continued. "They have no issues of transportation and such so they should come.”
