A special emergency court in Sudan’s South Darfur State has been set up to deal with violators of the newly imposed emergency laws, which aim to improve security in the state capital Nyala.

Already the court has imposed sentences ranging from four to five years against eight violators of emergency laws.

The court ordered confiscation of unlicensed weaponry and a vehicle without a number plate as well as quantities of illegal drugs found in the possession of the accused during their arrest.

A source says that some accused rumour-mongers have also been arrested and that they will be prosecuted according to the emergency laws in the next few days.

The emergency court will also move among other localities in the state in order to try emergency law offenders, according to a local source.
