A two-day workshop for the delegates at South Sudan’s peace talks is scheduled to begin today at Bahir Dar in Ethiopia.

The workshop on constitution-making is part of the ongoing negotiations led by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) aimed at ending almost nine months of conflict in the world’s youngest nation.

Dhieu Mathok of the SPLM-IO said a workshop on system of governance would take place today where devolution of powers during a transitional period will be discussed.

Mathok further said the distribution of power is still the main hindrance at the ongoing peace talks.

John Luk, a former detainee described the talks as “very slow.” The former justice minister disclosed that the worshop will be facilitated by Kenyan expert in constitutional law Patrick Lumumba.

Luk pointed out that current situation in South Sudan makes it imperative that there should be a president and prime minister as well as vice president for a short period of time.

“Following a transitional period then South Sudanese will be able to choose either presidential or parliamentary system in the future general elections,” he noted.

Yai Joseph, a member of the government delegation at the talks, told Radio Tamazuj that although talks have been continuing, but no breakthrough.
