South Sudan national reconciliation postponed till June

The upcoming Conference for Healing and National Reconciliation, scheduled for April 18 to 21, was postponed to June 1 to 4 to allow for greater consultation with stakeholders.

The conference is the first step of a ‘Journey of Healing for National Reconciliation’, scheduled to last for five to ten years across all states of South Sudan to achieve healing and reconciliation on a national scale, reducing internal conflicts and paving the way for true national unity.

The training of 200 Peace & Reconciliation mobilizers, who will undertake community-level sensitization all over South Sudan, begins on the April 2.

Bishop Michael Taban, Chairman of Sudan Council of Churches, welcomed the postponement, saying it will allow a greater proportion of the grass roots to be engaged.
