Shortage of fuel and price hikes in West Kordofan

The locality of Lagawa in the oil producing state of Sudan’s West Kordofan is experiencing an acute shortage of fuel at the market, causing huge price hikes.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj several citizens in Lagawa town have expressed their outrage about the price hikes of fuel, as well as of consumable commodities in Lagawa. A gallon of diesel has risen to SDG40 ($7), a gallon of petrol reached SDG80 ($14), whereas the smallest sack of onions on the wholesale market costs SDG50 ($8.70), a resident explained.

The town has experienced a blackout in the operation of the entire public services due to the scarcity of the fuel supply, which already paralysed the transport services.

The only fuel station in the town was closed 20 days ago. The security forces allow the sale of fuel only after processing an approved letter from their office.

Babanusa town also was reportedly experiencing an acute shortage of fuel during the last two days.
