Sennar farmer says cultivation season unsuccessful

Sennar state’s agricultural season has failed, according to Abdel-Azim Ahmed El Fakki, the deputy head of the Rainy Season Cultivation Farmers’ Committee in the Sudanese territory.

He blamed the failure on interference of local authorities, who refused to issue licenses to some of the farmers.

The conflict stemmed from some farmers’ opposition to a government policy to deduct 10 percent of the total area of the rainy season agricultural projects in order to open paths for nomads.

In addition to being denied licenses, farmers said the government also confiscated

As a result, Ahmed said large tracts of land went uncultivated and those who did farm incurred debt after the price of commodities dropped in the market.
