Sudanese security agents have stopped the chairman of the leadership office of Sudan’s National Consensus Forces, Faroug Abu Issa from travelling abroad for treatment.

The opposition alliance said in a press statement that Abu Issa was stopped by the National Security and Intelligence Service (NISS) at Khartoum Airport when travelling to Egypt for treatment.

The opposition alliance described the move as a gross violation of "constitutional and legal rights". The decision taken by the National Security and Intelligence Service reportedly coincided with the swearing in ceremony of President Omar Al Bashir for another five-year presidential term.

"President Bashir came up with fake promises with regard to freedoms and national dialogue process in his swearing-in ceremony. But he has now failed the first test,” reads the statement.

The security forces in December last year detained Farouq Abu Issa, Mekki Madeni and Farah Agar after returning to Khartoum from Ethiopia where they had signed the "Sudan Appeal" with armed rebel groups demanding end of conflict and democratic transition. They were released recently.
