S Sudan peace talks transferred to Bahir Dar

The venue of the South Sudanese peace negotiations under the auspices of the regional organization IGAD will be transferred to Bahir Dar, the capital of the Amhara region of Ethiopia.

Negotiators at the talks this morning were informed of the change of venue.

It is said by some at the talks that the reason for the transfer to Bahir Dar may be the heavy presence of diplomats in Addis Ababa.

Meanwhile, the SPLM-Juba and SPLM-IO delegations have arrived at the talks, but the leader of the SPLM-DC and head of the opposition platform PPLF is yet to arrive after being blocked on departure by security agents at Juba airport.

SPLM-IO military spokesman Lul Ruai confirmed to Radio Tamazuj his delegation arrived to Addis Ababa and was preparing to travel onward to Bahir Dar.

“Our delegation has arrived, it arrived yesterday and our chief negotiator Lt-Gen. Taban Deng arrived, and we are ready,” he said.

Bahir Dar served previously as the venue for negotiations between Sudan and South Sudan during the oil shutdown in 2012.
