S Sudan foreign minister to discuss Arab League seat in Egypt

South Sudan’s foreign minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin is expected to discuss in Cairo the possibility of South Sudan joining the Arab League.

Marial arrived in Egypt's capital on Thursday to arrange a visit for President Salva Kiir following an invitation from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

A source within the South Sudanese Embassy in Cairo said Marial is expected to meet Arab League Secretary-General Nabil El Arabi.

Marial will brief El  Arabi on the latest developments in South Sudan as well as discuss South Sudan’s quest to join the Arab League.

The visiting minister is also scheduled to meet his Egyptian counterpart Sabeh Shukri in order discuss issues of mutual interest and bilateral relations, according to the same source.
