Hundreds of villagers affected by the heightening of the Roseires Dam in Sudan’s Blue Nile state are reporting a water shortage in about 21 villages, prompting calls for action.

A source told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that local residents living in those areas have been complaining about an acute shortage of drinking water sources.

The locals have been calling for provision of services, but complain there has been no tangible response from the local authorities so far, according the same source. ‫ 

Meanwhile, several members representing Blue Nile state in the Council of States called for the provision of water supply for citizens affected by the upgraded of the Roseires dam.

El Amin Awad El-Karim, one of the parliamentarians lamented that they are suffering from the acute shortage of water sources.

“We made trips to remote areas in search for water and our situation become worse,” he was quoted as saying.

Awad El-Karim called for the provision of water supply to the locals before their situations deteriorate further.
