Report of fresh fighting in South Kordofan

Officials with the Sudan People’s Liberation Army – North (SPLA-N) said their troops repelled an assault by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) late last week.

The SPLA-N put out a statement claiming SAF was attempting to take Doluka, a town eight kilometers from Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan.

The SPLA-N’s political wing said in the statement that the recent attempt to take Doluka was part of a broader military campaign on the part of the Sudanese government. They accused the government of a broader pattern of attacks on regions of the Nuba Mountains, Blue Nile and Darfur in a bid to recover the areas ahead of next April’s elections.
