South Sudanese rebels early this morning captured Bazia village on a road south of the Western Bahr al Ghazal State capital Wau, according to government and rebel sources.

Speaking with Radio Tamazuj on Sunday afternoon, Wau County Commissioner Elia Kamilo Dimo confirmed that the rebels had captured the area in the early morning and were still present in the area.

He did not know whether there were casualties.

Bazia is located about 50 kilometers south of Wau on the Tambura-Wau road.

Tingo Peter, the rebel-appointed 'governor' of Western Bahr al Ghazal, also stated that their forces captured Bazia. He claimed also that they captured four police. He said they would not be mistreated.

A third source, speaking from the government side in Wau, said that six police had been captured when the village was overtaken this morning and one woman was wounded.

About two weeks ago, the commissioner of Raja County told Radio Tamazuj that a rebel group of about 60 men had passed through an area called Kur east of Raja and killed four fishermen. The commisioner said they had come from Sudan and were headed toward Wau.
