Prices hikes amid continuing insecurity in Diling Locality

Diling Locality in Sudan’s South Kordofan State has seen an increase in prices of commodities at the markets, including grains and fuel.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, several citizens expressed dissatisfaction about the hike in prices as well as absence of employment opportunities in the area after the farmers left their cultivation.

They attributed the problem to rampant insecurity in the locality since the fighting erupted in 2011 forcing many locals to seek refuge outside the area.

Dozens of the displaced families are currently living with their relatives, while the authorities do not want to open camps so as to accommodate the conflict-affected people, a local resident said.

A small bushel of sorghum is 9 SDG, five loaves of breads cost 2 SDG and a gallon of diesel reached 26 SDG, whereas a pound of cooking oil is for 6 SDG.
