Prices drop in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State

Prices of consumer commodities have dramatically dropped recently at the market in Aweil town in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, the deputy head of the State Chamber of Commerce Garang Atiang stated the market is relatively stable and flourishing this year compared to the previous year, especially commodities that are coming from Sudan.

“A sack of sugar, for example, dropped in price from 230 SSP to 215 SSP whereas it was 450 SSP last year,” he explained. “The sack of sorghum dropped to 310 SSP whereas it was 600 SSP,” he added.

The official noted, however, that business owners are still facing challenges due to rampant insecurity in some states in South Sudan, affecting the flow of goods from East African nations.
