Pre-transitional committee meeting delayed over logistics – opposition

Meetings of the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC) have been pushed to next week due to logistical reasons, a senior opposition official said on Monday.

Members of the newly-formed committee were due to meet in Khartoum on 14 October to discuss work-related activities.

Manawa Peter Gatkuoth, deputy spokesman of the SPLM-IO, told Radio Tamazuj that the scheduled meetings have been delayed for logistical reasons until 21 October.

“The Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) said it will call for the first meeting of the pre-transitional committee,” he said.

Manawa pointed out that the first meeting of the pre-transitional committee will focus on lifting the country's state of emergency and creation of a conducive environment for the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

On 25 September, President Salva Kiir appointed 10 members to the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC), a body tasked with the oversight and implementation of the activities of the pre-transitional period.
