The Pope on Monday sent $75,000 to the flood-affected communities in South Sudan, the Vatican reported.

The Vatican’s Dicastery for the Promotion of Integral Human Development announced that this is part of Pope Francis's continued spiritual and humanitarian outreach to those affected by tragedy and his concern for the people of South Sudan.

The financial assistance is being sent to the Diocese of Malakal through the Dicastery for the Promotion of Integral Human Development and is expected to assist in emergency management and support programs for those affected in the diocese.

According to the UN, an estimated 400,000 people have been affected by the flooding across six states after unusually heavy seasonal rains caused rivers to overflow their banks, inundating vast areas and settlements along the Nile river valley and other wetland areas.

Pope Francis also sent 50,000 Euros as financial support through Caritas Hellas to the people in Greece, where fires tore through several areas in August.

At least three people were killed and over 100,000 hectares were destroyed after a severe heatwave set off a wave of fires in several parts of Greece.
