A member of the National Assembly from Lakes State has alleged that the governor of the state tried to prosecute him and seize his house, after he voted in favour of a resolution calling for the governor’s removal.

Lakes State MP Daniel Deng Monydit informed the assembly on Monday morning that Governor Matur Chut was prosecuting him in spite of his immunity as MP, the Catholic Radio Network reported.

He said the Lakes State governor issued an order to confiscate his personal house without seeking permission from the assembly’s speaker to permit prosecution.

This has reportedly prompted the intervention of the National Assembly Speaker Manasseh Magok Rundial, who spoke out in defense of the immunities of members of the parliament.

Magok on Monday threatened action against anybody prosecuting Members of Parliament without seeking his permission.

The targeted MP, Daniel Deng, is a member of the national assembly representing Rumbek North constituency.

He is an outspoken critic of the governor; in August he was quoted by The Citizen newspaper as saying, “I don’t think the current governor has the capacity to run even a Payam, leave alone a state.”
