A policeman was shot and killed on Sunday morning in Tambura County of Western Equatoria State.  

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Tambura County Commissioner Matthew Mabenge said the policeman identified as Joseph was with his wife when they were attacked.

“Yesterday (Sunday) at morning hours, a policeman together with his wife went to collect firewood and they fell into an ambush and he was killed and the wife the survived,” Mabenge said.

The commissioner noted that security personnel is searching for the suspect whom he says is known to the authorities.

“The suspect is from the IO and we are trying with the security apparatus to find the person who shot him dead. He is well known and now we are trying our level best at least to apprehend him,” said Mabenge. “The suspect is sleeping in the army barracks but when the incident happened he is now at large."

Commissioner Mabenge cautioned civilians in the town not to go too far distances due to fear of possible attacks and abductions.
