Phone networks still down in much of Jonglei

The government of South Sudan's Jonglei State said that some telecommunication networks in the state ball remain non-operational due to the ongoing civil war.

Some of areas with networks down include Twic East, Pibor, Pochalla, Ayod, Akobo, Uror, and Fangak Counties which have either one or none of their network towers functional.

State information minister Jodi Jonglei told the media after a council of ministers’ meeting in Bor on Tuesday that they are hoping that by the end of this year all networks will be functional again.

“The state was fully equipped with all the telecommunication networks, but due to the war some areas are under the rebel control which means there are not working anymore until the peace is implemented and there is no war,” Jodi said.

He added that the state government installed network towers in Boma and Pochalla counties last year after many years of delay but these remain non-functional due to general insecurity.
