Peace meeting of Upper Nile-Sudan border communities

Communities living in the border areas between South Sudan's northern Upper Nile and White Nile, Blue Nile, and South Kordofan states of Sudan held a peace meeting on Saturday in Renk.

During his address at the meeting, the Renk County Commissioner Lual Deng said he expected joint peace committees to be formed, a step that has been postponed due to absence of native administration representatives from Sudan’s side.

The meeting was attended by traditional leaders from Renk and facilitated with the support of British-based organization Concordis.

Lual commended the efforts exerted by the organization aimed at consolidating peace between border communities, describing it as a step in the right direction.

He disclosed also that there are plans for a cross-border conference to discuss proposals presented by the leaders from neighboring areas in Sudan.

Meanwhile, the organization expressed satisfaction about the role of chiefs in supporting the peaceful coexistence along the communities living between the Sudan - South Sudan borders.

The Saturday meeting was a follow-up of previous meetings that discussed peaceful coexistence between neighboring communities living in the area between White Nile, Upper Nile and South Kordofan.
