Overland travel halts in Renk, Upper Nile

Bus travel has ground to a halt in Renk, Upper Nile state due to lack of travelers, higher taxes, and rough roads, vehicle operators say.

Several travelers speaking to Radio Tamazuj said that transport is almost at a standstill in Renk past Gelhak and Faluj because most potential passengers have fled due to conflict.

They added that checkpoints were hampering the transportation business.

Citizens urged the competent authorities to fix the roads and monitor checkpoints so as not to strain vehicle owners. Doing so would allow resumption of bus travel and facilitate free movement of citizens and daily consumption goods, they said.
