Over 200 sultans invited to Misseriya-Dinka Malual peace conference

The head of the Northern Bahr al Ghazal peace commission has confirmed that a seasonal migration peace conference between the Miisseriya and Dinka Malual tribes will start this week.

William Kolong told Radio Tamazuj that the conference will take place on Tuesday at Wanyjok, the seat of Aweil East County.

Kolong said the conference aims to review seasonal principles governing the movements of Misseriya tribe from Sudan and Dinka Malual from South Sudan across the state border.

“We have invited over 240 sultans from both Misseriya and Dinka Malual to participate in the upcoming peace conference,” Kolong stated.

Kolong said they have invited 20 sultans of Misseriya from Difra in Abyei along with a group from Meriam Misseriya to brief them on migration principles. He expressed hope that everyone would participate.

Kolong pointed out that this year both the Messeriya and the Dinka Malual fully implemented most of the agreed principles. The only complaint the Commission received from the Dinka Malual sultans was the negative implementation of immunization of cattle that belonged to Messeriya during their coming into the republic of South Sudan. He said that issue will be discussed.

Kolong said the conference is facilitated by AECOM with the help of Dinka Malual Sultans and others UN agencies and that a second conference between Dinka Malual and Rezeigat will take on the 10 January 2015 at Gok Machar in Aweil North County.
