Over 1,000 displaced with little food in Ayod County

Jonglei State authorities said over 1000 displaced people are staying in Ayod town without enough food and other services.

“We found a lot of internally displaced persons who come from Ayod payams into the town but they don't have enough food in the areas,” said Jody Jonglei, Jonglei State Minister of Information.

On Thursday last week, Jonglei State high officials visited the Ayod area and found many people coming daily to the town for better services.

When asked, Minister Jonglei could not confirm the exact number in Ayod, saying “they are so many, almost over thousand. I don't want to say something that I'm not sure of but they are many.”

Jonglei said the IDPS are sharing small food that belonged to SPLA forces in Ayod because no humanitarians have been to the area, and urged NGOs to supply food immediately before the situation worsens.

He said the main aim for the visit was to assure the public that their government is with them and has not forgotten them in all the difficulties they are facing.

Jonglei said they were welcomed by the IDPs in Ayod Town and the IDPs assured their support to the government of South Sudan.

He said that the government officials were also interested to see how many people arrived in the tow from payams under rebel control.
